Stories from congregations

As congregations think through various approaches to Church without Walls Presbytery invites them to share examples of what they're doing. Here are some examples which we hope stimulate your thinking:

Quiz evening

On the evening of Friday 12th. March 2004 over 150 members of Fullarton Church's family met in the Church sanctuary for a Bible Quiz. Under the banner of "Church without Walls" we at Fullarton had agreed to study St. Luke's Gospel this year. So our quiz was specifically on that Gospel. We had formed ourselves into 16 teams of three members. Most of the teams were of children of different age groups. There were 6 adult teams. The members of the teams had read St Luke's Gospel thoroughly. Other Members of the congregation had made up the questions and took turns to be the Quiz Master.

The teams turned up in fancy dress and gave themselves a clever name for their team. Some-one was ready to record all the scores on a lap-top computer. Another Member had created a buzzer-and-light system for each team to use when they knew the answer to a question. So, on with the show!

The questions set in the quiz were answered well. Correct answers were greeted by wild applause from the audience - and from the answering team! Cheer-leaders from the Loudoun-Montgomery School Scripture Union Branch spurred us on. It was a great night!

"Gold" medals were presented to the winning teams by a lady Member celebrating her 80th. Birthday!

We had all thoroughly enjoyed ourselves. And we definitely knew St. Luke's Gospel.

Why not have a go at such a quiz yourselves?
